Questions
Everything people ask before they buy
If your question is not here, call us. A local person answers, and you will get a direct answer rather than a brochure.
The product
Is a BearBarrier enclosure bearproof?
No, and we will not claim that. BearBarrier units are bear-resistant: they are engineered to reduce access, secure the whole cart, and prevent tipping and dragging. Any claim beyond that would need certified testing behind it, and we will tell you plainly when a product has been tested and when it has not.
My cart already has a lock. Why do I need an enclosure?
A lid lock protects the lid. It does not stop a cart from being tipped, rolled, dragged into the trees, or chewed through at the body. An enclosure protects the entire cart and creates a fixed storage point that stays where you put it.
Will it fit my cart?
We confirm fit before anything is fabricated. Send photos of your cart and the spot it sits on with your quote request and we handle the measuring. Cart dimensions vary between communities, which is why we measured local carts before finalizing our designs.
Could I just build one myself?
Some people can. The difference is that BearBarrier is designed as a steel security structure first, with a cedar exterior over it, fabricated to a repeatable spec and anchored by the crew that built it. You also get serviceable replacement parts and a workmanship warranty instead of a weekend and a guess.
What maintenance does it need?
An annual check of the hinges, latch, anchors, corrosion points, and panels. You can do it yourself with the maintenance guide that ships with every unit, or add the BearBarrier Care Plan at CAD $149–$399 per year and we will do the inspection for you.
Pricing and payment
What does it cost?
A single-cart Home unit is CAD $1,995–$2,995 installed, a two-cart Double is CAD $2,995–$4,495 installed, and a Cabin build runs CAD $3,495–$6,500 installed. Commercial and shared projects are quoted after a site assessment. Site preparation such as a concrete pad is quoted separately because it depends entirely on your ground.
How do payments work?
Residential projects are 50% deposit, 40% before delivery, and 10% after installation. Commercial projects are staged across design and scheduling, fabrication, delivery, and completion. The schedule is written into every proposal before you accept it.
Fit and installation
What surface can it be installed on?
Concrete, decking, pavers, and compacted gravel all work, and each is anchored differently. If your site needs a pad, deck reinforcement, or a gravel base first, we will tell you during the assessment and quote that work separately rather than hiding it in the price.
How long does the process take?
Most residential projects move from photos to fit recommendation within a business day, then to a written proposal. Fabrication and installation are scheduled after the deposit. Timelines shift with season and volume, so we confirm dates in writing on the proposal rather than promising a number here.
Where do you install?
Sparwood, Fernie, Elkford, Cranbrook, Kimberley, and the surrounding Kootenay communities. If you are just outside that area, ask anyway — we group installations by region and may already be heading your way.
Strata and commercial
Do you work with strata properties and municipalities?
Yes. Shared waste areas are the BearBarrier Community™ product. We start with a site assessment covering cart counts, hauler access, surface, and use patterns, then provide a documented proposal that can be phased to fit a council or budget cycle.
About BearBarrier
Do you have customer reviews yet?
Not published ones, and we are not going to invent any. Prototype installations are opening soon and we are selecting a small group of pilot sites. If you want to be one of them, apply for a local pilot installation and you will get documented performance data alongside your unit.
